Halftime Notes: Georgia leads Tech 13-3
A Look At The Defense
Tech got the ball first to start the game after the Bulldogs won the toss and deferred the ball until the 2nd half. Tech’s first drive ended with a punt.
Tech’s 2nd drive began at the UGA 37 after an INT, and they were held to a 30-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead with 1:20 left in the first quarter.
Tech’s 3rd drive came with 9:42 left in the first half and the game tied at 3, and they went three-and-out.
Tech’s 4th drive began with Georgia up 10-3 and 4:35 left in the half and it went three-and-out again.
Georgia’s leading tacklers at the half were sophomore KJ Bolden (4 plus 0.5 TFL) and junior Raylen Wilson (3 plus 0.5 TFL).
Redshirt junior Christen Miller collected a sack on Tech’s opening drive to give him 1.5 this year and four for his career.
Review Of the Offense
Redshirt junior QB Gunner Stockton was 4-for-10 for 36 yards with 1 TD, 1 INT plus 20 rushing yards in the first half.
Sophomore RB Nate Frazier posted 97 rushing yards on 11 carries for an 8.8 average. He had two receptions for 5 yards.
Junior WR Zachariah Branch had two receptions (both on 3rd Downs) for 31 yards and one TD. Branch has 65 receptions on the season, which ranks second in school history. The record belongs to Brice Hunter who had 76 in 1993.
Georgia’s first drive today ended with an interception at the Bulldog 37. Tech turned it into a field goal and a 3-0 edge with 1:20 left in the first quarter..
Georgia failed to score in the first quarter for the first time since the Auburn game (Oct. 11) when it trailed 7-0, then 10-3 at the half before winning 20-10.
Down 3-0, Georgia’s second drive resulted in a 22-yard game-tying field goal with 9:42 left in the first half. It capped a 13-play, 71-yard drive in 6:38.
In a 3-3 game with 8:25 left, Georgia began its third drive at the UGA 45 and went 55 yards in nine plays for a TD in 3:50 for a 10-3 lead It featured a 24-yard completion to Zachariah Branch on a 3rd-and-10 and a seven-yard TD to Branch on 3rd-and-5.
With 3:15 left in the first half, Georgia’s final possession resulted in a 30-yard field goal and a 13-3 lead.
Special Teams Update
Captains, Coin Toss And For Starters
Georgia won the toss and elected to defer the football until the second half.
Junior linebacker CJ Allen, Georgia’s leading tackler who was injured in the win over No. 10 Texas and did not play last Saturday, returned to his starting role. The longest starting streak on the team belongs to junior Star Joenel Aguero and redshirt junior QB Gunner Stockton at 13 games.
