ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia junior PK Peyton Woodring has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award given to the country’s top kicker, according to a recent announcement from the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
Woodring was also a semifinalist in 2023 and 2024. Former Bulldog All-American Rodrigo Blankenship won the 2019 Groza Award. Three finalists for this year’s award will be announced on Nov. 25.
Woodring, a native of Lafayette, La., drilled a season-long 53 yarder during the 20-10 win at Auburn and is a two-time Southeastern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week this season. He stands in the top 10 of several all-time categories for UGA, including fifth on PATs made with 159 and seventh on points scored kicking with 321. He also ranks 10th nationally this season at 92 percent on field goals and has drilled 7-of-8 from 40 or more yards, including both from 50 or longer. Most recently, Woodring kicked the Bulldogs’ first successful onside kick since 2013 during the rout of No. 10 Texas.
The No. 4 Bulldogs (9-1, 7-1 SEC) will play host to Charlotte (1-9) on Saturday. SEC Network will televise the matchup at 12:45 p.m. on Dooley Field in Sanford Stadium.
