TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 4/4/4 Alabama football team (8-2, 6-1 SEC) dropped its first Southeastern Conference contest of the 2025 campaign, falling, 23-21, to No. 11/11/10 Oklahoma (8-2, 4-2 SEC) Saturday afternoon inside a sold-out Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Ty Simpson led the offensive unit as he completed 28-of-42 passes for 326 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Daniel Hill paced the Tide backfield, closing with 60 rushing yards on 15 carries go with a pair of touchdowns. 

Josh Cuevas led Alabama in receiving yards, hauling in six passes for 80 yards and a touchdown, while Germie Bernard led the Tide in receptions, securing seven catches for 71 yards. 

Defensively, Bray Hubbard, Domani Jackson and Deontae Lawson each produced a team-high five tackles. Kelby Collins and Keon Sabb tallied the Tide’s two sacks.

Game Notes

  • The loss snapped Alabama’s 17-game home winning streak that began in 2023, the longest active streak in Division I
  • The Tide offense outgained the Sooners, 406-212, including 326 yards through the air compared to 138 by Oklahoma. It marked the fourth game this season that UA has recorded 400-plus yards of total offense. 
  • Ty Simpson’s 28 completions stand as a new career-best, surpassing his previous career-high of 24 completions 
  • Josh Cuevas’ six receptions and 80 receiving yards both mark new career highs
  • Daniel Hill’s 28-yard run in the third quarter surpasses his previous career-long rush of 13 yards
  • Hill also set a new career-high with 15 rushing attempts, eclipsing his nine carries against Western Kentucky in 2024
  • Kaleb Edwards was responsible for a 25-yard reception in the second quarter, the longest catch of his young career
  • Alabama, which led the SEC and was tied for the third-highest turnover margin in the nation entering the contest, committed three turnovers, resulting in 17 points for Oklahoma

First Quarter

  • 11:33 – OU | Aided by a long punt return, the Sooners’ first drive ended with three points after a five-play, 23-yard possession that resulted in a 25-yard field goal. (3-0, Oklahoma)
  • 2:03 – OU | With the Tide driving down the field, the visitors created an 87-yard interception return for a touchdown to extend the lead. (10-0, Oklahoma)

Second Quarter

  • 10:36 – UA | The Crimson Tide responded with a score of its own following the pick-six, with Daniel Hill crossing the goal line for a one-yard rushing touchdown. The scoring drive encompassed 72 yards over 12 plays, lasting just over six minutes. (10-7, Oklahoma)
  • 8:48 – OU | Following a Tide fumble, the Sooners found the end zone with a 20-yard rushing score, ending a quick two-play drive. (17-7, Oklahoma)
  • 6:13 – UA | Ty Simpson produced his only passing touchdown of the afternoon, connecting with Josh Cuevas for a 25-yard score. Alabama needed just six plays to cover 78 yards. (17-14, Oklahoma)

Third Quarter

  • 10:38 – OU | The Sooners managed a 52-yard field goal to add on to the lead, closing an eight-play, 41-yard drive. (20-14, Oklahoma)
  • 7:27 – UA | The Tide claimed its first lead of the contest as the result of an efficient, seven-play, 75-yard drive. Two plays after Isaiah Horton’s 26-yard catch placed the football at OU’s three-yard line, Hill carried the direct snap out of the Wildcat formation for a one-yard rushing touchdown. Fourth Quarter

  • 13:41 – OU | The Sooners converted a sack-fumble into a field goal, splitting the uprights from 24 yards away to result in the final score. (23-21, Oklahoma)
