Beach Volleyball Wraps Up Fall Season
TALLAHASSEE – The FSU beach volleyball team has officially concluded their fall season with the AVCA Championships in Huntsville, Alabama and the Fall Invite at North Florida.
The AVCA Championships included 64 pairs from across the country, all of which received bids based on performance in recent qualifying tournaments. Long Beach State took home the top spot, followed by UCLA, Cal Poly, and reigning national champion TCU.
Alexis Durish and Audrey Rothman won eight out of eleven sets played, beating three opponents in straight sets. Durish competed last spring almost exclusively with Audrey Koenig, ending the season with a record of 24-8. Rothman did not compete due to injury.
Transfer Jess Horwath played alongside true freshman Elena Lam, beating FGCU and Florida Atlantic over three days of matches. Horwath and Lam won first place in the Gold Bid Division at the AVCA East Coast Qualifiers earlier this season, where they beat Stetson in the finals with set scores of 23-21 and 21-17.
The Seminoles are looking to make a statement in the Big 12 as one of three new additions to the conference. With their eyes set on making it back to Gulf Shores this upcoming May, FSU is gearing up for a competitive spring season among the nation’s best programs.
