Alabama Splits with LSU and Florida State in Double Dual Meet
BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 16/16 Alabama men’s and women’s swimming and diving team split its double dual meet with No. 14/21 LSU and No. 18/RV Florida State on Friday. Cadence Vincent, 50 freestyle, and Emily Jones, 200 backstroke, would highlight the Crimson Tide in the meet, shattering a pair of LSU Natatorium records.
The Tide dominated its matchup with the Seminoles, defeating the 18th-ranked men 165-134 as the women topped FSU with a commanding 208.50-90.50 score. Alabama would fall 151-146 on the men’s side and 166-129 on the women’s side to host school LSU.
Highlights
- Emily Jones and Cadence Vincent paced the Tide with a trio of first-place finishes
- Vincent dominated the sprint freestyle events, placing first in the 50 (21.93) and the 100 (48.13) before securing first place with the 400 free relay (3:13.27)
- Jones secured the top time in the 100 back (51.65), while also finishing first in both the 200 medley relay (1:35.81) and the 400 free relay
- Alabama saw a 1-2-3 finish in the men’s 200 backstroke as Tommy Hagar (1:41.38), Cole Witmer (1:42.69) and Brendan Conners (1:44.63) paced the event
- Hagar would also place first in the men’s 100 back (46.17)
- Leonardo Alcantara swept the 500 free with a 4:18.68 and the 1000 free with an 8:53.40 as Joao Pierre de Gruttola Campos finished second in both events with a time of 4:19.85 and 8:56.08, respectively
- Rin Drudge dominated the 1m springboard with a 282.50, outscoring second place by 26.4 points
