TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State women’s basketball team (2-0) defeated Georgia Southern (1-1) by a score of 80-72 on Thursday night at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.

Facing the Eagles for the first time in almost 20 years, having last met in 2005-06, the back-and-forth affair would see the lead change three times with seven total ties, but a strong offensive effort in the fourth quarter would push FSU to victory.

Senior Sydney Bowles and junior guard Solè Williams led the scoring effort with 15 points each, sinking a combined five three-pointers. Sophomore guard Tatum Greene led with eight boards, while graduate forward Allie Kubek recorded 12 points to go with seven rebounds, five coming in the second half. Kubek also added a block

Junior forward Avery Treadwell tied her career-high in blocks with three on the night, matching the effort against SMU in 2024.

The Seminole offense got off to a slow start, going just 1-of-7 from the field in the first four minutes of play. Free throws from Williams and Bowles would break a brief scoring run by the Eagles, followed by a three from Bowles a minute later as the offense settled in, but trailed Georgia Southern 26-24 at the conclusion of the first quarter.

FSU battled and five ties defined the back-and-forth of the first six minutes of play, but Kubek made crucial layup to pull ahead. The Seminoles held a 39-36 lead entering halftime.

In the third, Williams led the team with nine points, followed by Greene and Bowles with seven each. Senior guard Jasmine Shavers posted five rebounds – all defensive – to go with one block.

The Eagles answered the Noles out of the break, tying the game back up, 46-46. Two more 3-point shots from Williams and senior guard Amaya Bonner helped wrestle the game back in the hands of the Seminoles, taking the 57-55 edge into the fourth.

The Florida State offense found its footing in the fourth quarter, putting up 23 points to Georgia Southern’s 17 points while beating the Eagles in rebounds 11-5. Bowles led the scoring effort with eight points, going a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor while Treadwell followed with six. The Seminoles shut down the final frame 80-72.
