Quotes
Coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson
On takeaways from todays game…
“Well, we just try to worry about ourselves more than anything, and we really wanted to come out in first and second quarter and really put them away defensively, and I think we did that.
I mean, they had 13 and seven, you know, and our defense is going to create our offense, and we scored 25 in the first and 31 in the second. So it really started with the defense and just locking in and figuring out their plays, because they only played one game, and we only played one game. So these early games are really hard to scout because everybody’s got about eight or 11 new players, you know what I mean?
And so as coaches, we have to put in different kind of offenses in different types of defenses, depending on the players we have. So we just wanted to concentrate on ourselves is my point, you know, and I think we did a good job at that.”
On how the hot start bolsters confidence for future…
“You know, we as coaches just got to keep them focused, you know what I mean?
We got to keep them focused, we gotta, continue to keep practice harder than the games, because they are. And you know, not let them let up at all. And that’s why Dani said right there, ‘just take one game at a time.’
And that’s kind of how you got to do it. You can’t think of what’s coming next besides our game on Monday you know? They’re gonna have a day off, they need the day off, they need the rest, they need to take care of their academics, right?
And then we’ll come back around Saturday with the scout against the team on Monday. But, you know, they’re still young. They’re 18 and I think Joce just turned what, or Albert Beckham turned 19 today, you guys.
So it’s just like they’re 19 year olds. They need they can’t think like we do as coaches of the future. They just need to think one day at a time.”
