ATHENS, Ga. – Following a 6-under 210 victory at The Robbie, sophomore Maria Garcia earned SEC Golfer of the Week honors to close out the fall season.

This marks Garcia’s first win and first SEC honor as a Bulldog.

Garcia opened the tournament with bogey-free rounds of 69 and 68 on Friday and Saturday, respectively, tying her low score of the season in the opening round and then bettering that mark in the second. She played the first 40 holes of the tournament without a bogey before closing with a 73 on Sunday. Her first place 6-under 210 finish is the ninth-best relation-to-par tournament score in Georgia golf history.

The 9-stroke win over the team field was Georgia golf’s first team title under head coach Erika Brennan and the 98th in program history.

Garcia not only celebrated her first place finish and season low over the weekend, but also her 20th birthday on Saturday, November 1.

Garcia and the rest of the Georgia golf team will open up the spring season on Monday, February 2, at the FAU Paradise Invitational in Boca Raton, Florida.
