McCray V Totals School Record 17 Assists; Loucks Wins Debut as Florida State Defeats Alcorn State 108-76

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State senior Robert McCray V was credited with a school-record 17 assists Luke Loucks won his first game as the Seminoles’ head coach in a 108-76 season-opening win for the Seminoles over Alcorn State at the Donal L. Tucker Center. McCray broke the school record for assists in a single game formerly held by Otto Petty in 1972 and matched by Tony William in 1983. With 12 points to go along with his 17 assists, McCray became the first player to record a double-double in a season-opener since Malik Osborn totaled a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds against Penn on Nov. 10, 2021.

Luke Loucks earned his first victory as Florida State’s head coach as he became the eighth Seminole coach to win his first game. Every coach in school history has now won his first game as Florida State’s head coach.

McCray also was the first player to record at least 13 assists since Loucks, recorded 13 against North Carolina in leading the Seminoles to the first ACC Championship in school history on March 11, 2012.

The Seminoles’ 2025 season opened with an alley-oop slam from McCray to Alex Steen. Steen finished the game with 12 points, six rebounds, and tied a game-high with two blocks.

Alcorn State led 15-14 at the 14:22 mark of the first half but a 16-0 Seminole run over the next four minutes gave Florida State a 30-15 with 10:43 remaining. The Seminoles led by at least 13 points, and by 34 with 20 seconds remaining in the second.

The Seminoles went into halftime with a 58-44 lead, fueled by Chauncey Wiggins’ 12 first-half points. Wiggins closed his first Florida State game with a career-high 22 points and five rebounds. Wiggins’ 22 points are the most scored by a Florida State player in a season opener since PJ Savoy scored 20 on November 10, 2021, against Florida.

Florida State began the second half on a 10-4 run, and a Lajae Jones’ 3-point shots extended the Seminoles lead to 66-46 with 18:38 left to go. Jones scored 18 points and recorded a game-high seven rebounds in his first game as a Seminole.

The Seminoles would outscore the Braves 42-30 throughout the rest of the game, finishing the game with 13 made 3-point shots. Florida State’s 13 made 3-pint shots were the most made in a game since Florida State finished with 13 against Clemson on January 28, 2023.

In his first collegiate regular-season game, freshman Cam Miles recorded 10 points and totaled two assists in nine minutes.

Guards Kobe MaGee and Martin Somerville each scored nine, both finishing the night with three 3-point field goals made.

The Seminoles return to the Tucker Center to take on the Alabama State Hornets on Friday night at 7:00 pm.
