Alabama Drops 2-1 Heartbreaker to No. 8 Vanderbilt in SEC Quarterfinals
PENSACOLA, Fla. –– After taking an early 1-0 lead against No. 8 Vanderbilt (14-3-1) in the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament, a red card forced the Alabama soccer team (11-8-1) to play with 10 players for 76 minutes. The Commodores would take advantage of UA’s man-down formation, scoring two goals to take a 2-1 victory.
Nadia Ramadan tallied the opening goal in the 12th minute of the game, off a give-and-go with Larkin Thomason. However, less than two minutes later, a red card on goalkeeper Madi Munguia, for blocking a goal-scoring opportunity, set Olivia Stafford up for Vandy’s tying goal.
The Tide held Commodores at a 1-1 score until the 50th minute when an uncollected shot reached Reagan Pentz for Vanderbilt’s game-winning goal.
