Seminoles Win Fourth Straight in Four-Set Win Against Syracuse
TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State volleyball team (12-8, 6-5) defeated Syracuse (13-8, 5-6) in four sets (25-18, 25-23, 19-25, 25-14) on Friday night in Tully Gym, extending its winning streak to four games. The Noles improved to 18-0 all-time against the Orange
The Noles hit .265 for the match, with Iane Henke hitting .357 with 22 kills and Kyleene Filimaua hitting .243 with 16 kills. Filimaua also earned 13 digs to secure her ninth double double of the season. Henke has recorded 20 or more kills in five of her last six games.
After trading scores to a 5-4 Syracuse lead in set one, the Noles scored five points in a row to take a 9-5 lead. After that run, the Noles maintained their lead to win the set 25-18. Filimaua and Mio Yamamoto each notched an ace during the set, and Filimaua led the Noles in kills with four of the team’s 16. Defensively, the Noles held the Orange to a .057 hitting percentage.
The Orange controlled set two out of the gate, jumping to an early 4-1 lead. The Noles later tied the set at 10-10, setting off a five score run that placed them at a 14-10 advantage. The Orange tied the set at 15, but the Noles, powered in part by eight kills from Henke, churned out a 25-23 victory. The Noles hit .293 in their set two win.
The Orange won the third set 25-19, thwarting a late comeback attempt by the Noles that featured two more Henke kills.
The Noles returned to form in the fourth set, setting the tone early with seven straight scores to form an 8-2 lead. Henke, Nellie Stevenson, and Lily Nicholson each recorded aces as Florida State marched to a 25-14 victory. The Noles hit .583 in set four.
FSU will next host Boston College in Tully on Sunday, with the first serve scheduled at 1 p.m. on ACCNX.
