Noles Hope to Keep Rolling Against Syracuse and Boston College

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State volleyball team (11-8, 5-5) looks to keep its momentum rolling this weekend as it hosts Syracuse (13-7, 5-5) on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. and Boston College (15-7, 4-6) at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Both matches can be seen on ACCNX. Sunday’s match is the annual Seminole Heritage match where fans are encouraged to wear turquoise. Seminoles Hope to Continue Momentum against Syracuse and Boston College

  • The Noles have found their groove the last couple of the weeks as the Noles have won three straight. 
  • The Noles will look to keep their momentum this weekend as they host Syracuse on Friday and Boston College on Sunday. 
  • The Orange are off to its best start in ACC play since 2022. Syracuse is 13-7 overall and 5-5 in conference play. Syracuse split its last two matches last week against Boston College. 
  • Boston College is 15-7  after an 11-0 start to the season. The Eagles are 4-6 in ACC play with wins over Virginia, Cal, Duke and Syracuse. 

                                                
Series History

  • The Noles have dominated both Syracuse and Boston College in the teams’ time in the ACC. The Noles hold a combined record of 42-3 against the two teams. 
  • The Noles have never lost to Syracuse as they are a perfect 17-0 against the Orange. 
  • FSU is 25-3 against Boston College and have lost just once against the Eagles since 2007. The Noles have never lost in Tully Gym to Boston College and have not lost a set to the Eagles at Tully since 2006.

  • The Noles had a great weekend at home with wins over Virginia and Virginia Tech. 
  • The Noles defeated Virginia in four sets before sweeping Virginia Tech on Sunday. The Noles’ sweep over the Hokies was FSU’s first sweep since Sept. 20 against Georgia Southern. 
  • Iane Henke led the way with 37 kills and 5.29 kills per set. Kyleene Filimaua added 29 kills while the Noles were phenomenal from the service line with 20 aces led by six from Mio Yamamoto

                                                
Filimaua and Henke Have Historic Match against Cal

  • No one was able to stop Iane Henke and Kyleene Filimaua last Saturday against Cal as the duo put together a performance for the record books in the Bay Area.
  • Henke tallied a career high 27 kills while Filimaua tied her career high with 25 kills. 
  • It was the first time in the rally scoring era that the Seminoles have had two players with over 25 kills in a match and the first time since October 27, 1995, when LaToya Presberry and Holly Schneider had 30 kills and 28 kills respectively against Virginia. 
  • Henke and Filimaua are the only duo in the ACC to have 25 or more kills in the same match this season. 
  • Prior to this season, the Seminoles have not had a player reach the 25 kill mark since Payton Caffrey in 2019. Filimaua has recorded 25 kills twice this year and Henke reached that mark against Cal. 

                                            
Henke Putting Together One of the Best Seasons in Program History

  • Iane Henke was looking to take a big step in her second year with the Garnet and Gold and has done that and much more in her senior season with the Noles. 
  • Henke is second on the team with 241 kills but is third in the ACC in kills per set (4.63) and points per set (5.38).
  • Henke’s 5.38 points per set is eighth in the entire country and is on pace to break the school record for points per set. Henke is also 14th in the country in kills per set. (4.63). 
  • Henke missed five matches from Oct. 3-16 due to a lower body injury. The Noles were 1-4 with Henke out and are 10-4 when Henke plays. 
  • Henke recorded 20 or more kills in four consecutive matches against Clemson, Georgia Tech, Cal and Virginia. Henke is the first player in program history to have 20 or more kills in four consecutive matches in the rally scoring era.
  • Henke had 21 kills in a three-set loss against Georgia Tech. Henke is one of two players in the ACC to record 20 or more kills in a three-set match this season. 
  • Against Cal, Henke had a career-high 27 kills which is the eighth-most kills in a match by an ACC player. Henke was also the first Nole to record over 30 points in a match since Payton Caffrey on November 4, 2018, against Louisville. 
  • In the four matches against North Florida, USF, South Carolina and Oklahoma, Henke tallied 15 or more kills in all four of those matches while hitting over .300 in all those matches. Henke is the first FSU player since Norisha Campbell in 2001 to accomplish that feat. 
  • Henke has recorded 15 or more kills in 12 out of the 14 matches she’s played in this season. 
  • Henke has recorded double digit kills in 13 consecutive matches. 
  • Henke has recorded 20 service aces so far this season after recording just five aces all of last season. 
  • Against UIC, Henke had seven service aces which was tied for the fourth-most in FSU history. Henke joined Audrey Koenig as the only two FSU players to record seven or more aces in the past 20 seasons.
  • Henke’s seven aces are tied for the third-most in a three-set match of any player in the country this season.  
  • Henke was the 2022 Division II AVCA National Freshman of the Year at Cal State LA.

                                                                 
Filimaua a Reliable Force for the Noles 

  • Filimaua is FSU’s most experienced and productive returner as a three-year starter in her junior season. 
  • In her first full season as an outside hitter, Filimaua leads the team with 272 kills along with 167 digs and 26 service aces. 
  • Filimaua has recorded double digit kills in her last eight matches and in 15 out of the last 18 matches.  
  • Filimaua has recorded eight double doubles this season. 
  • In 2024, Filimaua did a little bit of everything as she recorded 173 kills, 66 assists, 27 aces, 267 digs and 23 blocks. Filimaua filled in at libero during the middle of the season last year but will return to her main position as an outside hitter in 2025. 

                                                                
Kpea Impressing in Her Freshman Season

  • Nenu Kpea has had a great start to her career in the Garnet and Gold and has taken her play to the next level. 
  • Kpea has played in all 73 sets for FSU and leads the team with 79 blocks and 1.08 blocks per set. 
  • Kpea has recorded 132 kills and is hitting .291.

                                                            
Victoria David Makes the Most of Opportunity

  • In the absence of Iane Henke last weekend, freshman Victoria David stepped up in a big way with a great weekend against Wake Forest and NC State.
  • David played in just six sets prior to the Wake Forest and NC State matches as she played in 21 sets in the absence of Henke. 
  • David has 34 total kills with 38 digs and seven blocks. 

                                                                
Ewing Giving the Noles Great Production

  • Delaney Ewing has been a great addition for the Noles in the middle. 
  • Ewing has played in 70 out of the 73 sets with 88 kills and 74 blocks. 
  • Ewing had her best match with the Garnet and Gold as she recorded a season-best 10 kills and eight blocks at NC State. 
  • Against UIC, Ewing had seven kills on seven swings in the Noles’ sweep over the Flames. 
  • Ewing comes from the University of San Francisco where she recorded 155 kills and 83 blocks in her freshman season. 

                                                                
Noles Bring on Former Sun Belt Libero of the Year in Mio Yamamoto

  • The Noles made a big splash in the transfer portal in picking up 2023 Sun Belt Libero of the Year Mio Yamamoto from Louisiana. 
  • Yamamoto leads the team with 255 digs and has also added 25 aces. Yamamoto recorded a career-high six service aces against Virginia on Oct. 24. 
  • Yamamoto has recorded double digit digs in 15 out of the 19 matches this season and had a season-high 25 digs at NC State on Oct. 5 
  • Yamamoto was a two-time All-Sun Belt First Team selection in her two seasons in Lafayette. 
  • Yamamoto ranked in the top 25 in the country in digs per set and recorded 13 matches with 20 or more digs in 2024. 
  • Yamamoto has the most career digs of anyone on FSU’s roster.

                                                        
Nicholson and Stevenson Leading FSU’s Offense

  • FSU brought in a couple of transfers from the portal to lead the offense for the 2025 season. 
  • Lily Nicholson comes from TCU where she played in 112 out of the 113 sets for the Horned Frogs last season. 
  • Nicholson leads the Seminoles with 368 assists and 5.04 assists per set. 
  • Nicholson became just the eighth player in TCU history to record 1,000 assists with her 1,108 assists in her sophomore campaign. 
  • She averaged 9.89 assists per set which ranked fifth in the Big 12 and 60th nationally. 
  • She helped the Horned Frogs record a .252 hitting percentage over the course of the season which was tied for the second-best mark in school history. 
  • Stevenson comes from Montana State where she started two seasons for the Bobcats. 
  • Stevenson has recorded 357 assists in 19 matches. 
  • Stevenson recorded over 1,000 assists in 2023 and added 664 assists in 2024. 
  • Stevenson tallied 68 service aces in her two seasons in Bozeman.
