Kubek Named to Preseason Katrina McClain Watch List

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State forward Allie Kubek was one of 20 student-athletes nominated for the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year watch list, announced by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association on Thursday.

The Katrina McClain Award, now in its ninth year, recognizes the top power forwards in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball. It is named after the two-time All-American, 1987 National Player of the Year, and Class of 2012 Hall of Famer.

Before transferring to Florida State ahead of 2025-26, Kubek played three seasons at Maryland after two seasons at Towson. In the 2024-25 season, Kubek scored double figures in 15 games, allowing her to reach 1,000 career points in her 92nd career game.

Kubek led the Terps to the Sweet 16 last season, with an NCAA Tournament average of 15.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 80 percent (4-5) from three-point. In the double overtime win over No. 21 Alabama in the second round, Kubek scored 19 points with a season high 12 rebounds and five assists. Kubek follows Makayla Timpson on the list. Timpson was named a Top 5 finalist for the award in 2024-25 and was a semifinalist for the 2025 Naismith Women’s Defensive Player of the Year.

In two preseason games this season, Kubek swatted three blocks and grabbed six rebounds against Alabama. Kubek recorded 10 rebounds and five points in the Seminoles victory over Tampa.
