ATLANTA, Ga. – Florida State sophomore Sophia Fullbrook capped off an exciting week as she defeated Kylie Chong of Southern California, 4&3, in the second round of match play on the final day of the East Lake Cup. Fullbrook was a star for the Seminoles during the tournament as she finished in a tied for 12^th in stroke play, and won both of her match play events against Shyla Singh of No. 3 Oregon and Chong of No. 2 Southern California. The No. 2 ranked Trojans defeated Florida State, by a 4-1 margin.

The completion of the East Lake Cup brings Florida State’s fall season to a conclusion. The Seminoles earned a second-place team finish at the Jim West Challenge and sixth place team finishes at the Folds of Honor Collegiate and the Schooner Fall Classic.

Oregon defeated Northwestern by a 4-1 score to win the championship of the East Lake Cup.

Fullbrook won the first hole against Chong to immediately take control of the match. She won the first two holes, increased her lead again on the fifth and sixth holes, and led by four holes when the pair made the turn onto the front nine (play began on hole No. 9). Fullbrook and Chong then tied the first six holes on the front side leaving the Seminoles’ sophomore with a four-hole lead with only three holes to play.

Fullbrook won both of her matches against Oregon’s Shyla Singh and Chong by 4&3 scores. She was one of eight golfers in the 20-player field who was victorious in both of her match play competitions.

Florida State opens its spring season at the Collegiate Invitational at the Guadalajara Country Club (Jan. 30-31) and play host to a pair of events at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee – the annual Florida State Match Up (March 20-22) and the NCAA Tallahassee Regional Championship (May 11-13).
