Seminole Women’s Golf Team Travels To Play At East Lake Cup
Starting Monday, Bond and the Florida State Women’s Golf team begin play in the three-day event at the historic East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The tournament will air live on Golf Channel on Monday (Oct. 27; 3-6 p.m. ET), Tuesday (Oct. 28, 3-6 p.m. ET) and Wednesday (Oct. 29, 3-6 p.m. ET). The tournament showcases eight of the elite teams from the 2025 men’s and women’s NCAA Championships.
The event begins with a stroke-play round of 18 holes Monday, after which an individual medalist will be crowned. The championship continues with semifinal matches on Tuesday and concludes with championship and third-place matches Wednesday. Seeding for the match play semifinals is based on the team standings after Monday’s stroke play round.
To be invited to the East Lake Cup, teams must have advanced to the semifinals of the previous year’s NCAA Championship. The Seminoles finished in third place – the highest NCAA finish in school history – and will participate in the women’s championship along with 2025 National Champion Northwestern, Oregon, and Southern California. The men’s championship will be decided by Arizona State, Florida, Ole Miss, and Virginia.
The East Lake Cup is modeled after the NCAA Golf Championships. The format consists of an opening round of stroke play to crown an individual male and female champion and to determine seeding for the following two days of match play competition.
“It means a great deal to our program to have earned the opportunity to play in the East Lake Cup,” said Bond, the winningest women’s golf coach in program history. “The East Lake Cup is as prestigious an event as you can play in college golf. It’s prestigious because you must make the semifinals of the National Championship tournament to receive an invitation.”
The Seminoles advanced to the national semifinals and were ranked No. 2 in the final Women’s Golf Coaches Association poll of the 2025 season. During the 2024-25 fall and spring seasons, the Seminoles won a school-record seven tournament championships, including the first ACC Championship and the third NCAA regional championship in school history.
Florida State finished in second place in the team standings of the Jim West Challenge on Monday to earn their 10th top-three team finish in the last two seasons. The Seminoles were the only team in the 2025 Jim West Challenge to have three players finish with under par individual scores for the 54-hole tournament (Sophia Fullbrook, 211, -5, T7; Haruhi Nakatani, 211, -5, T7; Alexandra Gazzoli, 214, -2, T14).
Fullbrook, Nakatani, and Gazzoli will represent the Seminoles along with sophomores Elin Pudas Remler and Freya Russell in Florida State’s lineup at the East Lake Cup.
Fullbrook, Nakatani, and Gazzoli finished a combined 12 strokes under par with six of their nine scores under par for the championship. The Seminoles led the field with 63 total birdies, including a team-high 14 by Nakatani.
Pudas Remler played outstanding golf at the Jim West Challenge with under par scores of 70 and 71 in the first and third rounds. She finished in a tie for 22nd place in the event to earn her fifth career top-25 individual collegiate finish.
“It means a lot to me and my teammates to have the opportunity to play in the East Lake Cup,” said Pudas Remler as the Seminoles began their journey north to Atlanta. “I am very thankful to the organizers who have provided a great and historical venue for this prestigious event. Our team earned the opportunity last spring. I am excited to see what it takes to manage this type of course and how well we execute what we have practiced and prepared for.”
The East Lake Cup was first organized by Golf Channel and East Lake Foundation during the fall of 2015. Auburn won the men’s team championship and USC the women’s team championship in 2024.
The Florida State men finished in a tie for second in stroke play and went 1-1 in match play as they played in the East Lake Cup in 2024. Seminole head coach Trey Jones was recently announced as a member of the 2025 Hall of Fame Class by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Florida State’s play in the East Lake Cup concludes its four-event fall season. The Seminoles open their spring season at the Collegiate Invitational at the Guadalajara Country Club (Jan. 30-31) and play host to a pair of events at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club in Tallahassee – the annual Florida State Match Up (March 20-22) and the NCAA Tallahassee Regional Championship (May 11-13).
