Accolades Continue To Roll In For Stockton After Win
ATHENS, Ga. — Redshirt junior QB Gunner Stockton collected another round of weekly awards after leading Georgia to a 43-35 win over No. 5 Ole Miss last Saturday, according to separate announcements Tuesday.
Stockton, a native of Tiger, Ga., has been named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week, the Walter Camp National FBS Offensive Player of the Week, the Davey O’Brien Award National Quarterback of the Week and one of the Manning Award Stars of the Week.
On Monday, Stockton was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Stockton is the first player to be named as the Davey O’Brien Award’s National QB of the Week twice this season. This marks the 11th Walter Camp honor of this kind for the Bulldogs and first since Stetson Bennett garnered the weekly accolade in 2022.
Georgia’s signal caller went 26-for-31 for 289 yards and a career-high four touchdowns and added 10 carries for 59 yards and a score during the Bulldogs’ come from behind victory. Trailing by as many as nine in the second half, Stockton went 12-for-12 for 135 yards with three scores while directing Georgia to a 17-0 run in the final period.
Stockton led his team to score on its first eight drives, making Georgia the first team to accomplish the feat versus an AP top 10 opponent since 2016. He is the first QB to go 12-for-12 or better in a half against an AP top five opponent since Cal’s Aaron Rodgers did it against then No. 1 USC in 2004.
Following an off week, the No. 5 Bulldogs (6-1, 3-1 SEC) will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to face Florida (3-4, 2-2) on Nov. 1. ABC will televise the matchup at 3:30 p.m.
