SAUCIER, Miss. – The No. 17 Alabama men’s golf team saved its best for last, using a final round team score of 16-under par 272 on Monday to earn a share of the team championship at the Fallen Oak Collegiate. Thanks in large part its third-round performance, which matched the fifth-lowest score vs. par in program history, the Crimson Tide earned its second team title in the four tournaments played this fall, closing the event tied with No. 10 LSU at 32-under par 832 (279-281-272).

Four Alabama golfers finished among the top 20 led by William Jennings (t2nd, -12), Brycen Jones (t7th, -7) and Jonathan Griz (t9th, -6) who all finished inside the top 10.

In the four tournaments during its fall season, the Crimson Tide claimed two team championships (Folds of Honor Collegiate and Fallen Oak Collegiate), had two individual medalist honors (William Jennings at the Folds of Honor Collegiate and Brycen Jones at the GMAC Invitational) and boasted of eight individuals who recorded a top 10 individual finish.

Jay Seawell Comments

On his team’s third round rally and what it means to win the final tournament of the fall season…

“It was awesome out there. I think we were 12 strokes back at one point to a really good LSU team and we were just treading water. Then, our guys just lit it up. They never gave in and just played the ball that was in front of them. We started making putts and birdies started dropping which gave us some energy. Coming down the stretch it felt like we were playing in the postseason. You always want to win a tournament outright, but for us to be down as much as we were on the back nine and to come all the way back and tie them is a credit to the guys and the hard work that they’ve put in. It’s a great way to end the fall season.

On the growth of his team throughout the fall season…

“This fall has been great to see how this group has come together. They all put in a lot of our work and put in the sweat during the offseason to prepare themselves. They bought into everything we’ve talked about and I loved what I have seen so far. They have been tough, the guys are hungry and they want to win. They know how hard it is to win and know what type of work has to be done in order to reach those goals. We learned a lot about ourselves this fall. We’ve learned we are a very good team that has a chance to reach our goals. But that all starts with getting better in the offseason because that’s what championship teams do.”
