GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two Gators – Skye Blakely and Leanne Wong – are in Jakarta, Indonesia this week for the FIG Senior Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. The U.S. begins competition in qualification subdivision 4 Monday, Oct. 20 at 11 p.m. ET in the Indonesia Arena.
 
Three from the U.S. – Blakely, Wong and Joscelyn Roberson – all earned medals at previous World Championships. Wong is a four-time World medalist, claiming all-around silver and floor exercise bronze at the 2021 World Championships. She was joined by Blakely on the U.S.’s gold medal team at the 2022 and 2023 Worlds. Roberson also won team gold at the 2023 Worlds. Dulcy Caylor, who won the all-around at the U.S. Worlds qualification camp earlier this month, is making her World Championships debut.
 
NCAA Influence on U.S. Worlds Roster
Prior to the 2022 World Championships, just six competed as a collegiate and were part of the U.S. World Championships team in the same calendar year. That number now jumps to 12 as three quarters of the U.S.’s 2025 Worlds roster competed last season as collegiates.

Of the Gators currently enrolled at UF, Blakely is among five to compete at a World Championships. Kayla DiCello (2021, 2023 replacement athlete), eMjae Frazier (2021) and Riley McCusker (2018) also represented the U.S. in World Championships action. Blakely (2022, 2023), McCusker (2018) and DiCello (2023) won team gold. DiCello took all-around bronze in 2021. Anya Pilgrim represented Barbados at the 2023 Worlds in Antwerp, Belgium.
 
Competing at Worlds With Degree
Leanne Wong is believed to be the first to be named to a U.S. World Championships team as a competitor after earning her bachelor’s degree. Anna Li was an alternate on the U.S.’s 2011 Worlds roster after earning her UCLA degree in 2010.
 
Wong graduated magna cum laude in May with her bachelor’s degree in Health Education and Behavior.

 

Qualification Procedures:

The top 24 gymnasts, limited to two per country, advance to the all-around finals. For apparatus finals, the top eight gymnasts, also limited to two athletes per country, move ahead to each event’s final round.

About the Gators on 2025 World Championships Roster:

Skye Blakely was named to the U.S. Senior National Team for the fifth consecutive year in August at the 2025 Xfinity U.S. Championships. She won a share of the 2025 U.S. uneven bars title and took second on balance beam. This past summer marked Skye Blakely’s return to elite competition since she suffered a right Achilles tendon injury on the final day of podium training at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials. Just 199 days later, Blakely made her collegiate debut, performing in the Gators’ uneven bars lineup at the Jan. 10 season opener. She competed bars throughout the 2025 season, posting a collegiate-best 9.95 at the Southeastern Conference Championships. Blakely makes her third World Championships appearance in 2025, helping the U.S. win team gold in 2022 and 2023.

 

Leanne Wong was named to the U.S. Senior National Team for the seventh consecutive year in August at the 2025 Xfinity U.S. Championships. She won the 2025 U.S. Championships vault title and took silver in the all-around. Wong finished her Gator career in 2025 by adding seven All-America honors to her career total of 29, which is No. 3 all-time for Florida. She added three more 10.0s (bars, beam, floor) in 2025, including using that mark to share the SEC bars title. Her 11 perfect marks is second on Florida’s career chart. Wong makes her fourth World Championships appearance in 2025, helping the U.S. win team gold in 2022 and 2023. She won all-around silver and floor bronze at the 2021 Worlds.
