Georgia Falls to NC State in Dual Meet Invitational Final

ATLANTA – The University of Georgia swimming and diving teams completed competition at The Dual Meet Invitational Saturday afternoon, falling to NC State, 443-314, in the championship match.

  • Georgia took first in eight events, including three top 10 times in program history. Graduate Luca Urlando earned the Bulldogs’ first victory in the 200y butterfly with an NCAA cut time of 1:38.47, the fifth-fastest time in both program history and his collegiate career. Urlando later joined teammates Elliot Woodburn, Ruard van Renen, and Tomas Koski to win the 200y medley relay with an NCAA automatic time of 1:23.44, the seventh-fastest in program history and second A-cut relay of the weekend.
  • Freshman Kennedi Dobson continued the tremendous start to her Georgia career with a winning time of 4:33.61 in the 500y freestyle, earning an NCAA cut and becoming the fifth-fastest performer in program history. Through just four meets, Dobson has now entered the program top 10 in three separate events: 200y freestyle, 500y freestyle, and 1,000y freestyle.
  • Koski touched first in the 500y freestyle with a time of 4:13.85, while Woodburn took the win in the 200y breaststroke at 1:56.72. In the 200y IM, sophomore Drew Hitchcock earned his fourth win of the weekend with a top time of 1:44.59. In diving, junior Matthew Bray swept the springboards with scores of 185.20 (1-meter) and 213.90 (3-meter).
  • In other significant results, senior Ieva Maluka placed second in the 200y butterfly and 200y IM with an NCAA cuts of 1:56.99 and 1:57.13. Sophomore Charlotte Headland set a new personal-best time in the 200y breaststroke, picking up an NCAA cut of 2:09.88. In the 500y freestyle, freshman Sean Green placed fourth with an NCAA time of 4:17.24.

Georgia returns to competition in two weeks against rival Florida in Gainesville. The meet will begin with diving on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 5 p.m., followed by the full meet on Friday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m.
