Townes Named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week
ATHENS, Ga. – Following a match-winning goal against No. 6 Arkansas, freshman forward Mya Townes was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Townes helped lead No. 22 Georgia to a 1-0 victory over Arkansas, earning the Bulldogs their first home win over a top 10 opponent since 2015. In the 53rd minute, Townes took a pass from teammate Hailey Gordon and slid it past Razorback goalkeeper Evelyn Vitali into the bottom right corner for her third score of the season. The Aldie, Virginia native tied with teammate Summer Denigan to lead players with three shots as she played 69 minutes.
Townes and the Bulldogs return to the road this Thursday against Texas at 8 p.m. EDT in Austin. The match will stream live on SEC Network+. Georgia will then face Auburn in its home finale on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m.
