Crimson Tide in the NFL Spotlight: Week 5
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The National Football league concluded Week 5 of the regular season Monday evening. Below is a look at how former Alabama players performed on the gridiron last week.
Quarterback Mac Jones continued his solid play in relief for San Francisco, completing 33-of-49 passes for 342 yards and two touchdowns, as the 49ers pushed past the Los Angeles Rams, 26-23, in overtime on Thursday Night Football. Fellow quarterback Tua Tagovailoa turned in one of his more efficient outings of the young season, completing 27-of-36 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns. Tagovailoa’s top target was his former Alabama teammate, Jaylen Waddle, who hauled in six receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown, posting his first 100-yard effort since Week 11 of last season.
Titans’ wideout Calvin Ridley also eclipsed the 100-yard marker for the first time this season, amassing 131 yards on five receptions in Tennessee’s 22-21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. At running back, Detroit’s Jahmyr Gibbs totaled 54 rushing yards on 12 carries and added two receptions for 33 yards with a touchdown in the Lions’ dominant 37-24 road win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Saints defensive back Kool-Aid McKinstry registered the first two interceptions of his NFL career, adding four tackles and a career-best three pass breakups as part of New Orleans’ 26-14 win over the New York Giants. Jihaad Campbell tacked on another stellar outing to his impressive rookie campaign with the Eagles, recording 11 tackles, including one for loss, in Philadelphia’s matchup with the Denver Broncos. Sunday marked the first time in Campbell’s young career that he has reached double-digit stops.
Minkah Fitzpatrick shined in Miami’s thriller at Carolina, recording nine tackles, a pass breakup and one interception. The pick was the 21st of Fitzpatrick’s eight-year career and his third as a member of the Dolphins. Jalyn Armour-Davis made his third straight start for the Titans, notching a career-high nine tackles and one pass defense. Los Angeles Chargers’ defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe continued his breakout season, tallying four tackles, including one for loss, one sack and one quarterback hit against the Washington Commanders.
