After a back-and-forth start to set one, the Noles quickly jumped all over the Wolfpack thanks to an efficient offense and a very scrappy defense. The Noles took the first set 25-14 as they hit .343 while holding the Wolfpack to just a .049 hitting percentage.
Set two was tight from start to finish, but ultimately, the Wolfpack pulled out a 25-23 victory to tie the match.
The Noles jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in set three while holding the Wolfpack to a negative hitting percentage, but the Wolfpack were able to cut the Seminoles’ lead to one at 13-12. The Noles continued to hold the lead until NC State pulled ahead at 20-19. The Noles tied the set at 21 and three-consecutive errors from the Wolfpack gave the Noles set point, Kyleene Filimaua hammered a kill to give the Noles the set.
FSU rolled that momentum over to the fourth set and took a commanding 18-12 lead. NC State was able to storm back to take 19-18 lead and eventually took the set 25-23 to force a fifth set.
The Noles were unable to get anything going in the fifth as the Wolfpack took the deciding set 15-9 to take the match.
Filimaua led the way with another double double with 20 kills and 10 digs. Middle blockers Nenu Kpea and Delaney Ewing each added 10 kills.
The Noles will return home for the first time since September 15 on Friday against SMU at 6:30 p.m.
