Giamichelle Onto the Round of 16 at ITA All-American Championships
TULSA, Okla. – Senior Santiago Giamichelle advanced into the round of 16 at the ITA All-American Championships with a come-back victory over UCLA’s No. 19 Spencer Johnson on Thursday.
After dropping the first set to the UCLA sophomore 7-5, Giamichelle rallied back with a 6-4 second set to send the match to a third. The Argentine won the first five games of the set, and despite a late rally, held on to take the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Giamichelle will play a round of 16 tie against the winner of No. 60 Connor Van Schalkwyk (Baylor) and No. 4 Aidan Kim (Ohio State) tomorrow. The winner of tomorrow’s round of 16 match will automatically qualify for the NCAA Singles Tournament in November.
