Givens’ Record-Setting Round Leads Bulldogs

NORMAN, Okla. — Sophomore Sydney Givens fired a school-record 63 in the opening round of the Schooner Fall Classic on Saturday. Givens is tied atop the individual leaderboard entering Sunday’s final round at Belmar Country Club, while the Bulldogs are tied for 11th in the team field.

• Givens is knotted with Meg Tilma of Oklahoma for the individual lead.

• Georgia carded team rounds of 5-over 285 and 2-over 282 in Saturday’s first and second rounds, respectively.

• Givens’ bogey-free 63 featured seven birdies and bested the Bulldogs’ previous all-time low of 64 by Caterina Don in the second round of the 2021 LTWF Heroes Classic. Givens teed off from No. 5 and made successive birdies at No. 6, No. 7, No. 8, No. 11, No. 12, No. 13 and No. 15 before wrapping up her loop with seven consecutive pars.

Maria Garcia paced Georgia in the second round with a 2-under 68, her second tally in the 60s in four rounds this fall, while Givens added another red number – a 1-under 69.

• On the individual leaderboard, Garcia is tied for 40th at 143, Maria Eidhagen Harrouch is tied for 62nd (146), Morgan Smith is tied for 69th (148), Celine Brovold Sanne is tied for 81st (152) and Karoline Tuttle is tied for 88th (155).

Sophomore Sydney Givens:

“It was definitely unlike any other round I’ve ever played. My previous best score was 66. I was really trying not to look at my score card and just keep rolling in putts. At the end of the round I thought there is no way this just happened. I was a little shaken. I’m not going to lie, I’ve never done anything like that before.”
