TOKYO – Alabama track and field legend Jereem Richards (Trinidad and Tobago) captured silver in the men’s 400-meter final at the World Athletics Championships behind a national-record time of 43.72.

Richards was the only Olympic finalist from the 2024 Paris Games to reach the event final in Tokyo.

About Richards

• Opened his 400-meter journey at the World Championships by winning his preliminary heat (44.64)
• Despite not earning an automatic-qualifying finish in the semifinal, Richards’ 44.12 time was still the third-fastest overall across all three semifinal heats
• Shortened his own national record via his 43.72 performance in the event final
• The feat gives Richards three career World medals
• Was a Southeastern Conference champion and national runner-up as a student-athlete at Alabama (2017), earning All-America honors in five separate events for the Tide
