Walton – Okaloosa County Construction Advisory
Walton County – 09/08/25 – Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions and lane closures on the following state roads in Okaloosa and Walton counties as crews perform construction and maintenance activities. All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
Walton County:
• U.S. 331 Resurfacing from south of I-10 to U.S. 90 – The week of Sunday, Sept. 7, drivers will encounter the following construction-related traffic disruptions:
The U.S. 331 northbound outside right-turn lane is temporarily closed at the U.S. 90 intersection. One U.S. 331 northbound left-turn lane, and one lane for both left- and right-turn movements, are available to access U.S. 90.
The U.S. 90 westbound outside travel lane is temporarily closed, between 11th Street and U.S. 331. One U.S. 90 westbound travel lane and one left-turn lane to access U.S. 331 remain open.
• U.S. 98 Intersection Improvements at U.S. 331 – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures now through Thursday, Sept. 11, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving operations.
Okaloosa County:
• Brooks Bridge Replacement Project – The roadway west of the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention Center is closed. The closure extends from U.S. 98 to just north of the roundabout, including a partial roundabout closure. This closure is expected to remain in effect through mid-2026 as crews construct the westbound bridge structure and approach. Access to the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention
Center will remain open via Pier Road. Drivers can reach properties north of U.S. 98, including Marler Park and the boat launch, via Santa Rosa Boulevard. U.S. 98 eastbound drivers will detour via the newly constructed East Connection to access Santa Rosa Boulevard. Detour signage is in place to direct drivers through the work zone. Additionally, drivers may encounter the following traffic disruptions, now through Thursday, Sept. 11, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.:
Nighttime intermittent single-lane closures of Santa Rosa Boulevard just north of the U.S. 98 intersection. These nightly closures are required for crews to pour the deck for the new westbound bridge structure. Access to adjacent properties and businesses will be maintained at all times.
Alternating lane closures on U.S. 98, from Ferry Road and Pier Road, and on Santa Rosa Boulevard, from east of Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park, for construction activities.
• U.S. 98 Resurfacing from Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast – Drivers may encounter intermittent U.S. 98 lane closures, between Josie Road in Mary Esther and Florida Place Southeast in Fort Walton Beach, now through Thursday, Sept. 11, between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for signalization work, paving operations, and for crews to place thermoplastic striping.
• State Road (S.R.) 85 Improvements from S.R. 123 to Hospital Drive – Drivers may encounter the following single-lane closures, now through Thursday, Sept. 11, for construction activities:
S.R. 85 southbound, between Shoal River Bridge and S.R. 123, from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m.
S.R. 85 northbound, between S.R. 123 and Shoal River Bridge, from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
S.R. 85 northbound, between Shoal River Bridge and Interstate 10 (I-10), from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
S.R. 85 southbound, between I-10 and Shoal River Bridge, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• S.R. 85 Resurfacing and Safety Improvements from Hospital Drive to U.S. 90 – Drivers may encounter intermittent S.R. 85 lane closures, from Hospital Drive to U.S. 90, now through Thursday, Sept. 11, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for paving operations.
