Men’s Tennis Closes Blue Gray National Tennis Classic
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The doubles duo of Vit Kalina and Matic Kriznik turned in a perfect 3-0 performance to pace the Alabama men’s tennis team at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
Kalina and Kriznik recorded paired wins over players from Georgia Tech, Tulane and Auburn in the three-day, season-opening tournament. Additionally, Kriznik captured a pair of singles wins over Tulane and Auburn, while Kalina and Jacob Olar both secured a singles victory in their first collegiate tournament. Olar and Brendan Loh rounded out the event with a doubles win against Georgia Tech.
Additionally, Kriznik would be awarded the tournament’s Sportsmanship Award.
“This was the first year having the Blue Gray Championships in the fall. It was always the best event of the year, and the staff and community in Montgomery and Lagoon Park did an exemplary job to kick off fall competition.
“Our four guys competed better each day of the tournament. It was college tennis 101 as none of them had competed in the fall season before. The tournament format gave us limitless opportunities to test our willingness to be out of our comfort zone, be put into challenging situations that required problem solving and where we learned new things; and finally, the three-day event demanded our perseverance.
“I am very pleased by the effort they gave each day this weekend and know they will continue to improve throughout the fall, beginning with practice this week.”
