Noles Fall at Auburn – Florida State University
The two teams were competitive in the first part of the opening set as neither team was able to separate by more than three points until Auburn went on 5-0 run to take a 20-16 lead. A couple of kills from Iane Henke and a couple of errors from the Tigers allowed the Noles back into the set as they cut it to one at 22-21, but Auburn scored the final three points to take the first set.
The Noles got off to a great start in set two and led throughout the first part of the set holding a 15-13 lead. The Tigers used another fierce run to take a 20-17 lead, but the Noles were not done as they clawed back to tie the set at 21-21 thanks to back-to-back kills from Henke. The teams traded points to tie the set at 23, but Auburn prevailed in the final two points to take the set.
The Noles once again got off to a good start in set three as they were once again the first team to 15, but Auburn immediately responded with a 5-0 run to separate itself. The Noles got within two at 20-18 thanks to a kill from Kyleene Filimaua, but that was as close as they would come as they’d drop the final set 25-20.
Henke once again led the way for the Noles with 15 kills. Henke has now had at least 15 kills in her last five matches which is the longest streak by a FSU player since Payton Caffrey had six consecutive matches of 15 or more kills in 2018. Filimaua added 12 kills for her fourth double digit kill match in the last five matches. Mio Yamamoto led the way defensively with 10 digs.
FSU will get another shot at Auburn on Sunday in the home opener at Tully Gym. First serve is set for 2 p.m. on ACCNX.
