TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– After an impressive showing on the road against the No. 3 team in the country, Alabama’s Madi Munguia was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Munguia aided the Crimson Tide in a 1-1 draw against No. 3 Duke on Sunday, marking the Blue Devils’ first tie of the season. Additionally, with the help of Munguia’s efforts in goal, UA held Duke to one of its lowest offensive performances this year.

• The redshirt freshman tallied four crucial saves in the match to help limit Duke to just one goal in the game
• It marked just the second time this season that Duke has been limited to just one goal as the Blue Devils have scored multiple goals in four of their five matches prior to Sunday
• Munguia and the UA defense limited Duke to a season-low five shots on goal as she helped break up plays and cut down angles
• Prior to Sunday’s match, Munguia had tallied one shutout and one combined shutout
