Noles Improve to 2-0 With Win Over UNF
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida State volleyball team (2-0) gutted out the first two sets and ran away with set three to improve to 2-0 with a sweep (25-23, 25-22, 25-17) over UNF (0-2) on Saturday evening at UNF Arena.
The teams traded points to start out the match, but FSU used a 5-0 run to be the first team to 15 and take a 15-13 lead at the media timeout. The teams went back and forth, and with the set tied at 23, the Noles got back-to-back kills from Iane Henke to take the 1-0 lead in the match. Henke was dominant in the set recording nine kills on 17 attempts with just one error in the set.
UNF was able to jump out to a 14-9 lead in set two, but the Noles went on an 8-1 run to get back in the set and take an 18-16 lead. The Noles were able to keep its distance and hold a 20-18 lead, but UNF rallied back to take a 22-21 lead. The Noles then got a kill from Payton Whalen to tie the match. Mio Yamamoto followed the point with an ace, and Henke and Nenu Kpea recorded back-to-back blocks to end the set.
The Noles rolled in set three as they jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the third, and never looked back as they took the final set 25-17.
Henke led the Noles for the second consecutive match as she recorded 17 kills and hit .350. Kyleene Filimaua added 12 kills while Kpea added eight kills on 12 swings to go along with five blocks. Yamamoto led the way with 12 digs.
FSU will be back in action next Friday at USF in Tampa.
