Men’s Cross Country Sweeps Season Opener at Covered Bridge Invite

Boone, N.C. — Georgia cross country opened the 2025 season at the Covered Bridge Classic with the men sweeping the top six slots and the women finishing second overall on Friday morning.
 
Fast Facts
• The Georgia men competed in the 6K race where they finished first through sixth, sweeping the race with a total of 15 points. The women competed in the 5K race where they claimed second with 47 points. 
• On the men’s side, three runners led the way for the Bulldogs; junior Conner Rutherford, graduate transfer Matias Reynaga and junior Ryan Olree all clocked matching times of 18:00.0. That time registered as a PR for both Olree and Reynaga.
• Other men’s scorers included graduate transfers Oliver Smart, crossing the line at 18:01.0 and Will Aitken right behind at 18:01.1.  Freshman Kristers Kudlis made his debut clocking 18:05.0 for sixth, completing the Bulldogs sweep of the top six spots.
• The men’s sweep marks the first time the men have locked down all top-five scoring spots since the 2016 season opener at the UGA Invite.
• On the women’s side, sophomore Izzy Yonas led the way with a fourth place thanks to a 30-second PR of 17:17.8.
• Additional scorers for the women who were making their collegiate debut were freshman Anastasia Nilsson in sixth at 17:29.8, Addison Scott in 12th at 17:50.3, Lucy Jones in 15th at 18:04.4 and Elise Wooddell in 18th at 18:08.9.
• The women’s second-place finish marks their best finish in a season opener since the 2019 Dog Invite opener.
 
Georgia next laces up on Sept. 26th at Florida State for the Seminole Invite.
