QUICK KICKS
Ospreys on Deck
No. 13 Georgia closes its season-opening homestand with a match against ASUN foe North Florida Thursday evening at the Turner Soccer Complex. The Bulldogs are looking to post four consecutive shutouts for the first time since 2022. This is the second all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Ospreys, with UGA prevailing, 1-0, on Sept. 8, 2022, in Athens. Mallie McKenzie scored in the 18th minute as the Bulldogs preserved the early lead for the remainder of the match.
North Florida is seeking to rebound from a 5-0 defeat at Florida on Sunday and earn their first win since the season opener against Howard. The Ospreys were picked fifth in the ASUN preseason poll, with midfielder Paige McSwigan and goalkeeper Sofia Miliancano selected to the preseason All-Conference Team. The UNF program carries a Georgia connection into the match with freshman forward Katie Entlich being the sister of four-year Bulldog manager Gracie Entlich.
Picking Up the Hardware
Thanks to consecutive shutouts over No. 12 North Carolina and Michigan, Georgia cleaned up on weekly honors from both national and conference sources. With seven points on the week, Summer Denigan was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career, followed by a placement on the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week. Freshman Lily Kate Elphick was also named SEC Freshman of the Week for her astounding clinching goal against UNC. As a team, the Bulldogs were ranked 13th by both the United Soccer Coaches and TopDrawerSoccer. The mark ties the highest held by the program under Keidane McAlpine in the year-end poll of 2023. In non-COVID seasons, Georgia’s highest-ever ranking was No. 12 in September 1999.
Hail to the Bulldogs
Georgia notched its third-straight clean sheet with a 3-0 victory over Michigan on Senior Day Sunday. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Folliard teamed with redshirt freshman Nicole Bidun to blank the Wolverines, with Folliard tallying the lone save in the 63rd minute. In her first four matches, she has posted a 0.30 goals against average and nine saves. Summer Denigan continued her torrid pace with two goals on the afternoon, becoming the 15th player in program history to score in three straight matches. Denigan opened the scoring with a 25-yard blast in the 19th minute, set up by an assist from Juliauna Hayward, scoring the match winner for the third-consecutive outing; she is tied with five other players for the national lead in winners. She followed it up in the 49th minute with a header off the service from BK Harris, the first assist of the USC transfer’s career in Athens. Hayward then clinched the match for Georgia in the 71st minute as she knocked in an unassisted strike from the top of the 18, giving her three points for the afternoon.
