Kacie Rubin Returns to Georgia as Assistant Coach
ATHENS, Ga. – Former All-American Kacie Rubin (née Evans) has joined Tom Black‘s volleyball staff as the program’s new Assistant Coach.
“How can you overstate having Kacie back in the program?” Black said. “She has so much to give, and our players will benefit a ton. That’s the best part. The second-best part is being the first stop in what will be a long and successful coaching journey for Kacie. This is a great day for our program.”
“I am very excited to be back in Athens,” Rubin said. “I’m honored to assist with the best staff and get to grow a connection with the team. Entering a new era for the SEC is going to be life-changing and thrilling. I can’t wait to see how this season goes and represent the red and black. Go Dawgs!”
In her five-year career in Athens, Rubin garnered 2022 AVCA All-America honors, was a three-time All-SEC performer, earned AVCA All-Region honors, was the 2019 SEC Freshman of the Year, and was the AVCA Southeast Region Freshman of the Year. She became the fifth member of Georgia’s 2,000-Point Club (2,057) and is the most recent member of Georgia’s Double Grand Club, finishing with 1,768 kills and 1,127 digs. She was a three-time SEC Player of the Week and a five-time SEC Freshman of the Week in 2019.
The Bulldogs appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2019, Rubin’s freshman season, for the first time in six years. In 2022, Rubin helped lift Georgia to an NCAA Tournament first-round victory, the Bulldogs’ first since 1995. Georgia appeared in three NCAA Tournaments in Rubin’s five seasons.
Rubin broke Georgia’s career sets played record (517) and finished fourth in kills (1,768), third in attacks (4,527), fifth in aces (166), and fourth in points (2,057).
Off the court, she was a member of the 2023 SEC Volleyball Community Service Team, appeared on two SEC Fall Academic Honor Rolls, and the 2019 SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll.
Following her amazing career at Georgia, the Wadsworth, Ohio, native signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Atlanta Vibe on Dec. 11, 2023. Rubin was signed to a season contract before the start of the inaugural 2024 season. She played in 11 matches in 2024, appearing in 21 sets, primarily as a designated server. She totaled a pair of aces in 38 serves as a rookie.
Along with her new role on the sideline, Rubin is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Nutritional Sciences with an emphasis in Community Nutrition at Georgia.
Rubin married Hayden Rubin earlier this month. Rubin is a former Georgia football walk-on and student athletic trainer.
