Carter’s Corner: Gators Return to Days of Disco and Bell-Bottoms for Homecoming Game
It’s Homecoming — not Disco Demolition Night at The Swamp — but if you want to wear bell-bottoms to the Oct. 18 game against Mississippi State, you’ll fit right in with the Gators.
As head coach Billy Napier met with reporters on Monday night after practice, the football program’s X account posted a video announcing the Gators will wear retro uniforms that include an orange helmet with the vintage white interlocking “UF” logo, as well as blue jerseys featuring orange-and-white stripes on the should pads. It will mark the first time in Napier’s tenure that the Gators have worn a throwback uniform.
A classic look making its return.

Florida last wore the 1970s-era uniform in a 42-0 victory over Vanderbilt in 2021. Napier would like a similar result.
“Uniforms are nice. Uniforms are good,” he said. “Looking good is nice. Playing better is nicer. So, I hope they’re worried about how they play, not what they’re wearing.”
The Gators have stuck mostly with Florida’s traditional look under Napier other than a 2023 home loss to Arkansas when the program debuted black jerseys.
In an era when teams switch up uniform combinations more than ever, the Gators have some of the best throwback looks in college football according to ESPN.com.
Florida’s 1960s-era uniform is considered a gem of the genre. It features a blue jersey, white pants and white helmet with a “F” logo encircled.
The Gators beat Auburn in the uniform during the 2019 season, one of the more memorable games at The Swamp in the last decade.
ESPN ranked the look “Best In Show” and called the uniform “simplistic throwback perfection.”
No argument here.
