The incoming Gators transfer infielder led the NWL in home runs (17) and RBI (68).

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Incoming Florida transfer infielder Ethan Surowiec has been named the Most Valuable Player of the Northwoods League, as announced by the league office on Saturday afternoon.

Coming to the Gators from Ole Miss during the offseason, Surowiec found a home with the Duluth Huskies of the NWL this summer and thrived as their everyday third baseman. Across 52 regular-season contests, the Gulfport, Miss. native slashed .383/.471/.781 for a 1.252 OPS. Surowiec nearly claimed the league’s triple crown, leading the NWL in both homers (17) and RBI (68) while ranking second in batting average.

Helping power Duluth to a postseason bid, Surowiec also totaled three triples, 23 doubles, 48 runs scored, 28 walks and an impressive 15 stolen bases. Surowiec and the Huskies continue their summer campaign in the upcoming NWL Playoffs, which run from Aug. 10-14.

As a true freshman at Ole Miss last season, Surowiec played in 11 games including three starts for the Rebels and logged 16 at bats. Despite the limited action, he popped two home runs and batted .375/.524/.750 with eight RBI and five runs.

Out of Gulfport High School, Surowiec was rated the No. 89 prospect and No. 7 third baseman in the country per Perfect Game, as well as the No. 3 overall player in Mississippi.
