TALLAHASSEE – Brandon Smith, an All-American golfer at Texas A&M in 2018, has been named an assistant coach at Florida State by director of golf Trey Jones and head women’s golf coach Amy Bond.

Smith will step into the unique role, assisting both the men’s and women’s program under Jones and Bond.

“I want to thank Coach Jones and Coach Bond for this special opportunity at Florida State,” said Smith. “Both coaches have built remarkable careers at Florida State in college golf, and I’m really excited to learn from their experience & leadership as I kick off my coaching journey. It will be a privilege to contribute to two programs with such a strong history. I’m looking forward to supporting the visions for both programs in any way I can.”

Smith enjoyed an outstanding career from 2017-21 in College Station, Texas, leading the Aggies to pair of fifth place finishes at the NCAA Championships in 2018 and 2019.

As a sophomore in 2018, he earned All-America honorable mention and All-Central Region honors. Smith recorded six individual top 10 finishes and was the runner-up at the Bryan Regional Championship.  He earned his first career win at the 2019 Pioneer Creek Collegiate with a 10 under par, 206 behind scores of 71-68-67. He shot a career-low 63 in the second round of the 2021 Legends Classic – a score that established the school record during his playing career – and which now ranks as the third lowest in program history.

Smith was named PING All-America honorable mention and captured All-Central Region honors by the Golf Coaches Association of America as a sophomore. He was a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and was named to the SEC Community Service team in 2018 and 2019.

Following his collegiate career, Smith spent two years playing on the All Pro Tour before becoming a caddie on the Korn Ferry Tour.

“Coach Bond and I are excited to welcome Brandon Smith as our new assistant coach for our golf programs,” said Jones. “Brandon checked all the boxes we were looking for to assist us as a recruiter, a mentor and to develop the Florida State players to the highest level of collegiate golf. His past two years of professional playing experience and 18 months of Korn Ferry Tour caddying have built deep insight into what it takes to perform, connect, and lead in high level environments. He has developed a deep understanding of individual performance habits, mental resilience, and the long-range focus required to sustain growth in elite-level golf. He brings first-hand knowledge of what is needed in the transition from being a college golfer to becoming a professional golfer.”

“We are thrilled to add Brandon to our staff,” said Bond. “He was an outstanding college player and most recently has caddied on the Korn Ferry Tour. He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and insight that will add value to our program.”

A native of Frisco, Texas, Smith graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in sport management in 2020.  His father Bruce qualified for the 2004 and 2010 PGA Championship as a golf pro and was the 2001 NTPGA Player of the Year.

The Seminole men and women open their seasons as both teams play in the Folds of Honor Collegiate at the American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich. (Sept. 8-10).
