Three Seminoles Help U.S. to U-17 4 Nations Tournament Win

Last Updated: August 4, 2025By

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State soccer freshman forward Nyanya Touray led the United States U-17 Women’s National Team in goals as three players with FSU ties helped Team USA win the 4 Nations Tournament from July 26-August 1 in Mexico City.

Touray was joined by fellow freshman forward Ashlyn Anderson and January 2026 enrollee Sydney Schmidt on the U.S. roster. Touray paced the team with three goals, including the game-winner in the final match, and Schmidt scored one, as all three players saw action in each of the team’s three games.

The United States opened the 4 Nations Tournament with a 1-1 draw to Canada on July 26. Schmidt scored the equalizing goal in the 88th minute for her first international goal in her fifth U-17 cap. Minutes later in the shootout, she converted the first penalty for the Americans. Touray won the shootout for the U.S. on the team’s fifth PK attempt.

Three days later, on July 29, Touray found the back of the net twice as Team USA downed Costa Rica 3-1. Touray’s first goal opened the scoring in the 40th minute. After the break, Touray quickly doubled the United States’ advantage with a 49th-minute score that proved to be the game winner.

With the 4 Nationals Tournament title on the line on August 1, Touray scored the game’s only goal as the U.S. beat Mexico 1-0. Her third goal in two games came in the 79th minute, 12 minutes after she entered the game.

Touray’s three goals were the second, third and fourth of her U-17 international career.

Schmidt was one of two players to start all three games, and she logged a full 90 minutes in two of the three contests. Anderson and Touray both got one start and came off the bench in the other two matches.

The United States won the 4 Nations Tournament with eight points, ahead of Canada’s six. Host-Mexico had three points and Costa Rica one.

For Anderson and Touray, the 2025 FSU season unofficially begins with an exhibition matchup against Alabama on Friday August 8, at 6 p.m. ET. The season will kick off against in-state rival Florida at home on Thursday, August 14, at 7 p.m. Both of those games, and the team’s first three overall, will be held at home at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
