Walton County Public Works Ongoing Projects

Walton County – July 28, 2025 – The Walton County Public Works is busy with ongoing infrastructure projects. Their dedicated in-house crews have been hard at work on improving the community’s infrastructure, as noted below.

• Beaver Dam Park Improvement Project: This project involves the installation of a stormwater retention pond on a 0.15-acre site and the construction of a parking lot featuring 16 standard parking spaces along with two designated handicap accessible spaces. A stormwater inlet will be added to effectively collect drainage from the parking lot, while a 104-foot pipe will discharge the collected stormwater into the newly created retention pond. The pond will also be designed to promote natural filtration.

The site has been cleared, and the retention pond has been excavated. Sod delivery is expected this week. The team will be placing the new drainpipe, along with the Type C inlet, to safely channel stormwater into the retention pond. Additionally, they will begin laying a lime rock base for the new parking area.

• John White Road PH I- Dirt-to-Pave Project: This project involves paving a 2,600-foot section of John White Road, extending from Dewey Road to Caswell Road, as part of the dirt-to-pave initiative. Today, the stabilization crew will be mixing lime kiln dust, which is the final step before the paving crew arrives on-site.

The asphalt crew will perform maintenance patching on Pitts Bayshore Drive before mobilizing to John White Road. Once the paving is on John White Road is complete, the asphalt crew will move to Cannon Drive to begin resurfacing a total of 1.03 miles.

• River Road Resurfacing Project : The paving for the River Road resurfacing project is now complete! This project covers roughly 2.3 miles,

stretching from State Road 81 to Commander’s Boat Landing. The resurfacing included replacing the existing milled asphalt with new asphalt. This week, Traffic Operation crew will begin striping along River Road. They will also be digging holes for the forms needed for the new crosswalk signage on CR883, with plans to pour the concrete footer on Wednesday.

• Forest Shore Road Drainage Improvements: Work is ongoing to enhance the drainage system along Forest Shore Road, aimed at mitigating flooding and improving water management. Once the drainage improvements are complete, the project will also include the construction of a new sidewalk and installation of new sod within the right-of-way. These enhancements will significantly improve pedestrian safety by providing a designated, protected space for walkers, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and promoting walkability within the community.

• G Montgomery Road Dirt-to-Pave Project: G Montgomery Road Dirt-to-Pave Project is set to transform 2.46 miles of roadway, of which 1.42 miles currently remain unpaved. The paving project will commence where the existing pavement ends and extends to CR 183S. Crews are currently working on drainage improvements. The first phase focuses on upgrading the drainage system followed by road widening.
