Baugh and Lagway Named to Preseason Watch Lists for the Paul Hornung Award and the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two sophomores from Florida have been named to the Paul Hornung Award and Allstate Wuerffel Trophy watch lists. Running back Jadan Baugh was named to the preseason watch list for the Paul Hornung Award, while quarterback DJ Lagway was named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy watch list.
Paul Hornung Award
The Paul Hornung Award is given to the most versatile player in college football. It was named after Notre Dame’s All-American and Heisman Trophy winner, who played the halfback, quarterback and kicker positions during his college career. Hornung is also the only Heisman Trophy winner to come from a team with a losing record. Since the award’s inception in 2010, a Florida player has never won the award.
Baugh’s freshman season with the Gators was a monumental one, earning a Freshman All-SEC honor for his work. Baugh played in all 13 games for the 2024 season and led the team with 673 rushing yards, eight total touchdowns and tied for team-best with seven rushing touchdowns.
Baugh averaged 5.1 yards per carry and tied Trey Burton (2010) and Tim Tebow (2007) for the program record of five rushing touchdowns in his first start against Kentucky. His performance against Kentucky is also the most touchdowns made by a Gator in their first-career start and it is the first time in program history where a true freshman quarterback (DJ Lagway) and running back started in the same game. Serving as the Gators’ primary kick returner, Baugh averaged 21.55 yards per return and is one of eight SEC players and one of 11 freshmen in FBS to have two 30-yard plus kick returns.

The selection requirements include a GPA above 3.0, first team player at FBS, and must participate in community service that is sustained, measurable and documented.
During his time at Florida, Lagway has become involved in several forms of community service in the Gainesville and Alachua County area. These organizations include Education Foundation, Alachua Habitat for Humanity, Made for More, SWAG (Southwest Advocacy Group), Ronald McDonald House, Special Olympics, Food4Kids, Balance 180 and Feeding Tampa Bay for a total of 38 hours.
Lagway has also committed several hours to his own foundation called the DJ Lagway Foundation in which he partnered with UF Health to provide resources and opportunities for underprivileged kids to achieve their goals and access necessary resources. Through this foundation UF Health is able to support community programs like wellness drives, health screenings and physical education outreach.
For all of the work he has done within the community and on the football field, Lagway was also named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team with his nomination for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.
The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy names 116 nominees to the watch list before being narrowed down to a group of 11 semifinalists. From the 11 semifinalists, a group of finalists will be selected and the recipient of the trophy will be announced on Dec. 12, 2025. The voting process for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy consists of input from a national voting committee with some input from fan voting. The selection committee focuses a majority of their voting on the community service the athletes participate in. The recipient of the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy will also have the honor of serving as the Captain of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
