GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Five current and former University of Florida swimmers will represent their countries at the 2025 FISU World University Games, held July 23-31 at the Schwimm-und Sprunghalle im Europasportpark (SSE) in Berlin, Germany.
 
Current Gator Michaela Mattes will compete for Team USA, joining UF alumni Jake Mitchell, Mason Laur and Isabel Ivey who all earned roster spots based on their performances at the 2025 Toyota U.S. National Championships back in June. Additionally, rising sophomore and Olympian Julie Brousseau will represent Team Canada in seven events.
 
Mitchell and Ivey were also named among the six captains selected to lead Team USA.
 
Swimming competitions consist of individual and relay races over distances from 50m to 1500m a 50-meter indoor pool. The swimmers qualify from heats through semi-finals until the fastest eight swimmers compete for the medals in the final. Certain events do not have semifinal heats. Prelims start at 3 am ET each day with the semifinals/finals session starting at 1 pm.
 
The finals sessions will be streamed live on FISU.TV.
 
Also referred to as the ‘Olympics for university athletes’, the World University Games are a multi-sport event held every two years for students aged 17 to 25. The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 World University Games edition will see over 9,200 athletes from more than 150 countries compete, making it the largest FISU Games to date.
