Walton County Infrastructure Projects Continue

Walton County – July 14, 2025 – Walton County Public Works continues to make great progress on various infrastructure projects throughout the county. These projects, executed by in-house crews, are designed to improve safety, enhance quality of life, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the community. Updates are provided to foster transparency and engagement, ensuring the residents are aware of the efforts being made to improve our infrastructure.

• Phillips Road Drainage Improvements: This week, work will commence on Phillips Road to implement essential drainage improvements. The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance water runoff management, ensuring safe passage for both vehicles and pedestrians. These improvements are crucial for preventing flooding and maintaining the integrity of the roadway.

• CR 883/SR20 Intersection Safety Enhancement: We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the CR883 safety improvement project in front of Freeport Elementary. This initiative involved replacing the existing crosswalk and adding a new crosswalk at the north end of the school zone, as well as adjusting the alignment of the turn lanes. Crews have finalized the striping, which includes marking for the turn lanes, such as left and right turn arrows. Additionally, the crew has completed the striping of the basketball court in Choctaw Beach. They are now moving on to CR883 and SR20 to install extra candlesticks, all aimed at enhancing safety at the intersection before transitioning to their next striping project.

• Karli Court Dirt-to-Pave Project: This project aims to improve the access along a 0.27-mile section of dirt road through paving operations and essential drainage enhancements. We are pleased to report that the paving is now finished, and the drainage upgrades have been successfully completed. The final step

involves pavement striping. Traffic Operations will soon conduct the pavement striping to wrap up the project while the stabilization crew moves to John White Road to prep a short portion for paving.

• Forest Shore Road Drainage Improvements: Work is ongoing to enhance the drainage system along Forest Shore Road, aimed at mitigating flooding and improving water management. Once the drainage improvements are complete, the project will also include the construction of a new sidewalk and installation of new sod within the right-of-way. These enhancements will significantly improve pedestrian safety by providing a designated, protected space for walkers, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and promoting walkability within the community. Additionally, crews are currently assisting with pouring concrete sidewalks at the South Walton Bark Park.

• G Montgomery Road Dirt-to-Pave Project: G Montgomery Road Dirt-to-Pave Project is set to transform 2.46 miles of roadway, of which 1.42 miles currently remain unpaved. The paving project will commence where the existing pavement ends and extends to CR 183S. This week, crews continue to work on implementing drainage improvements. The initial phase will focus on upgrading the drainage system to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Following these improvements, the road will be widened to accommodate increased traffic and accessibility.
