Dodgers Draft Leiter for FSU-Best Third Pick in Top Two Rounds

Last Updated: July 14, 2025By

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State baseball junior right-handed pitcher Cam Leiter was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round of the 2025 MLB Draft with the 65th overall pick on Sunday evening.

Leiter’s second-round selection gives FSU three picks in the top two rounds for the first time in program history. Earlier on Sunday, junior left-handed starter Jamie Arnold was the 11th overall pick by the Athletics and junior shortstop Alex Lodise was the 60th overall selection by the Atlanta Braves.

From Bayville, New Jersey, Leiter is FSU’s first pitcher taken in the second round, besides Arnold in the first round earlier tonight, since Parker Messick was the 54th overall pick in 2022.

Leiter is the 15th Seminole to be drafted by the Dodgers and the ninth pitcher, both the first since Wyatt Crowell in the fourth round in 2023. The second FSU player picked by LA in the first three rounds, he is joined by first-rounder  David Yocum (20th overall) in 1995.

A Seminole the last two years, Leiter started seven games in 2024 and posted a 5-1 record with a 4.63 ERA. He gave up 18 earned runs on 32 hits and held opponents to a .241 batting average. Leiter struck out 56 batters and walked 22. He struck out a career-best 13 in the season-opener and earned ACC and National Pitcher of the Week accolades.

Leiter was an AAC All-Freshman Team selection in 2023 at UCF and pitched in 15 games with 14 starts. He notched a 4.92 ERA with a 3-2 record and struck out 80 batters in 56.2 innings. Leiter did not pitch for FSU in 2025 due to an injury.

Leiter helped lead Florida State to its first College World Series berth in five years in 2024.

The 2025 MLB Draft continues with rounds 4-20 on Monday, July 14, beginning at 11:30 a.m. on MLB.com.

MLB teams have until Monday, July 28, at 5 p.m. ET, to agree to deals with players they draft out of four-year colleges and high schools.
