GAINESVILLE, Fla. – With the start of the 2025 MLB Draft approaching on Sunday, July 13, a handful of Florida Gators are just days away from achieving their lifelong dreams of having their names called by MLB brass.
 
The 2025 Draft kicks off on Sunday, July 13 at 6 p.m. ET with coverage of the first, second and third rounds on ESPN, MLB Network and MLB.com. The opening night of the Draft will reveal the first 105 picks of the first three rounds, compensatory rounds, competitive balance rounds and prospect promotion incentive selections. The first 43 selections will be broadcast live on ESPN and MLB Network, while the other 62 will be simulcasted on MLB.com. 

Having been pared down to a two-day event this year, the draft concludes on Monday, July 14 with rounds four through 20 starting at 11:30 a.m. ET on MLB.com.

 

As part of 2025 MLB All-Star Break festivities, this year’s draft will take place in Atlanta, Ga. at The Coca-Cola Roxy.

Dating back to the inaugural year of the MLB Draft in 1965, Florida has seen 225 individuals combine for 255 draft selections, including 20 first-round picks (26 counting the draft’s secondary phase). Florida’s MLB Draft history has been even more impressive in the Kevin O’Sullivan era, boasting 110 draft selections and 14 first-round picks – the latter of which ranks second nationally. Developing hurlers has been a major calling card of the program across the past 18 seasons, producing 62 draft picks on the mound since 2008 for an average of 3.6 per year. Most impressively, 23 of those arms were selected in the first-five rounds for the third-highest total in the sport during that span.
 
Florida has produced at least four MLB Draft picks in 15 of the last 16 years, including five players in last year’s draft: first baseman/left-handed pitcher Jac Caglianone (Round 1, Pick 6 – Kansas City Royals), right-handed pitcher Brandon Neely (Round 3, Pick 86 – Boston Red Sox), right-hander Fisher Jameson (Round 10, Pick 288 – Colorado Rockies) righty Ryan Slater (Round 18, Pick 538 – San Francisco Giants) and infielder Colby Shelton (Round 20, Pick 590 – Washington Nationals).
 
Gators found in various MLB Draft rankings across the industry include Shelton, catcher Luke Heyman, right-handed pitcher Jake Clemente, infielder Bobby Boser, catcher/designated hitter Brody Donay, second baseman Cade Kurland, outfielder Blake Cyr and left-hander Pierce Coppola. Florida’s group of draft hopefuls is not limited to that contingent, however, as all draft-eligible players can be selected unless they proactively remove their name from the draft.
