New York Knicks Next Head Coach Odds: Brown Favored; Jenkins, Borrego Closing In

Last Updated: July 2, 2025By

Despite clinching an Eastern Conference finals berth this past season, the Knicks are in search of a new head coach.

New York fired head coach Tom Thibodeau on June 3 after five seasons with the team.

And with that, the hiring process in the Big Apple is well underway.

Let’s check out the odds for who will land the job at DraftKings Sportsbook as of July 1.

Knicks next head coach to start 25-26 regular season

Mike Brown: +120 (bet $10 to win $22 total)
Taylor Jenkins: +400 (bet $10 to win $50 total)
James Borrego: +600 (bet $10 to win $70 total)
Micah Nori: +600 (bet $10 to win $70 total)
Michael Malone: +1200 (bet $10 to win $130 total)
Johnnie Bryant: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)
Steve Nash: +3000 (bet $10 to win $310 total)
Mike Budenholzer: +3500 (bet $10 to win $360 total)
Rick Brunson: +3500 (bet $10 to win $360 total)

So far, the Knicks’ head coaching search has been shaky at best.

New York has attempted to interview a number of employed coaches, including Dallas’ Jason Kidd, Minnesota’s Chris Finch, Houston’s Ime Udoka, Chicago’s Billy Donovan and Atlanta’s Quin Snyder.

Each of those franchises denied the Knicks’ interview requests.

Former Villanova coach Jay Wright also informed the team that he is not interested in leaving retirement to consider the position.

With all those names off the board, who is the favorite?

Cavs associate head coach Johnnie Bryant has gone back and forth between being atop the board and just on it. Now, Mike Brown at +120 is the favorite, and has been for several weeks.

Brown previously served as head coach for the Cavaliers (2005-10), the Lakers (2011-12), the Cavaliers again (2013-14) and the Kings (2022-24). He was named Coach of the Year in 2009 and in 2023.

Second on the board is Taylor Jenkins, whose odds moved from +175 to +400 recently. Jenkins was fired by the Grizzlies at the end of March.

Under Thibodeau, the Knicks made four playoff appearances in five seasons, including that trip to the East finals this season, where they lost in six games to the Indiana Pacers.

The Knicks had not made it to the Eastern Conference finals since the 1999-2000 season, where they also lost to the Pacers in six games.

Thibodeau had an overall regular-season record of 226-174 as head coach of New York. He was 24-23 in the postseason.
