Walton County Public Works Continues Multiple Projects

Walton County – June 30, 2025 – The Walton County Public Works has released an update on the various projects the department is actively working on this week. This update will outline significant progress on several ongoing infrastructure projects throughout the county. These updates aim to increase transparency and keep residents informed about improvements to local infrastructure.

• Walton Street Bridge Repair (off Bunker Road):

The bridge on Walton Street off Bunker Road is currently undergoing essential repairs to ensure the safety and longevity of this vital infrastructure. The project focuses on the repair of the wooden bridge components, addressing any structural issues identified during recent inspections. The repair work aims to maintain safe passage for vehicles and pedestrians. Crews will be on-site to complete the repairs efficiently, minimizing disruptions to traffic whenever possible.

• CR 883 Striping Project at Elementary School: Work is actively progressing on the CR 883 striping project in front of Freeport Elementary School. The project aims to enhance pedestrian safety and improve traffic flow in the area. The scope of the project includes the replacement of the existing crosswalk and the installation of a new crosswalk at the north end of the school zone. Crews have successfully completed adjustments to the turn lane, ensuring a smoother transition for vehicles turning onto and off of CR 883. Currently the paint crew is focused on implementing the new striping plan, which will be vital in emphasizing safety for both students and drivers.

• Karli Court Dirt-to-Pave Project: The Karli Court Dirt-to-Pave Project is set to enhance the accessibility of a 0.27 mile stretch of dirt road by initiating paving operations that will also include vital drainage improvements. We are pleased to announce that the drainage improvements have been completed, and the

road has been stabilized. The asphalt crew has officially mobilized to Karli Court as part of the ongoing Dirt-to-Pave Project. Due to recent weather conditions, the stabilization crew will continue to prep the road ahead of the paving crew to ensure an efficient paving process. This project aims to provide a smoother and more reliable roadway.

• South Walton Bark Park Improvements:

South Walton Bark Park is currently undergoing renovations, which include bringing in dirt to elevate the property, redirect drainage, and installing new sidewalks and fencing. Recently, the Board of Commissioners approved the addition of a restroom facility, along with site work to include utility taps and connections at the Bark Park. We are pleased to report that substantial progress has already been made. Dirt has been successfully brought in to elevate the property and improve drainage. Additionally, sod has been installed, and a fencing contractor has been secured for the project. This week, weather permitting, concrete will be poured for the new sidewalks, marking another step forward in our renovation efforts.

• Forest Shore Road Drainage Improvements:

Work continues to improve the drainage system along Forest Shore Road to mitigate flooding and enhance water management. Once the drainage improvements have been installed, this project will also include the construction of a new sidewalk and installation of new sod within the right of way which will significantly enhance pedestrian safety by providing a designated, protected space for pedestrians, reducing the risk of accidents and promoting walkability within the community.

• G Montgomery Road Dirt-to-Pave Project:

G Montgomery Road Dirt-to-Pave Project is set to transform 2.46 miles of roadway, of which 1.42 miles currently remain unpaved. The paving project will commence where the existing pavement ends and extends to CR 183S. Crews have already begun implementing drainage improvements. The initial phase will focus on upgrading the drainage system to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Following these improvements, the road will be widened to accommodate increased traffic and accessibility.
