Gator Athletics Program Seventh in the Nation

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida’s third NCAA men’s basketball title led nine top-10 team finishes as the Gators athletics program placed seventh in the 2024-25 LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup standings.

in each of the last 41 national all-sports standings.

Florida’s Top-10 Finishes:
Men’s basketball third NCAA title led the Gators’ nine top-10 team finishes in 2024-25.
 
This is the 16th consecutive complete season with a Gators team winning a national team title. Florida is one of two programs with a national title each complete season since the 2008-09 campaign. UF has 28 championships in that span.
 
In 2024-25, nine Gators teams placed among the nation’s final top 10.

LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup
The LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup, presented annually by the nation’s athletics directors, recognizes the schools with the best overall sports performances in an academic year. The scoring system uses finishes in NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball championship action. Additionally, a program can receive points in up to 14 other sports toward its final score. Texas claimed its fourth Directors’ Cup this season.

2024-25 Individual NCAA Champions for the Gators:
Five Gators claimed five NCAA individual titles across two sports in the 2024-25 season. Florida has won five or more individual titles in each complete season since 2007-208 (17 seasons) and at least one each of the last 44 complete seasons.

Other Gators successes:
Men’s golf’s Southeastern Conference  pushed the Gators’ league-leading total to 266 titles all-time. Lacrosse won its first Big 12 title in 2025 as the team now has tallied 13 titles across four different conferences since its debut season in 2010.
 
Two Gator teams won 2025 conference tournament titles. Men’s basketball started its post-season run winning its fifth SEC Tournament title. Lacrosse won its 11th consecutive conference tournament title and 12th overall in Boulder, Colo., at the 2025 Big 12 Tournament.
 
Four Gators recognized on 2025 NCAA All-Tournament teams:

  • Walter Clayton Jr. (MVP) – NCAA Men’s Basketball All-Tournament
  • Kaitlyn Davies – NCAA Lacrosse All-Tournament
  • Gianna Monaco – NCAA Lacrosse All-Tournament
  • Will Richard – NCAA Men’s Basketball All-Tournament

 
National freshman of the year honors went to one Gator:

  • Taylor Shumaker             NFCA Freshman of the Year

 
Two Gators picked up conference athlete of the year honors in 2024-25. This is the 48th consecutive season at least one Gator claimed league athlete of the year accolades.

  • Elyse Finnelle                    Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Year

 
Gators by the Numbers

  • Men’s basketball NCAA team crown marks the 16th straight complete season a Gator team won a national team title. Florida has won 28 national team titles since the 2008-09 season.
  • 9 top-10 national team finishes, including four in the top four.
  • 2 conference titles by the Gators in 2024-25 – men’s golf and lacrosse.
  • 93 percent Graduation Success Rate, as reported last fall in the 2024 NCAA Federal Graduation Rate Date is above national average of 91 percent.
  • 3.405 grade point average by Gator student-athletes in 2024-25 academic year – an all-time high. A total of  407 Gators earned 2024-25 SEC Academic Honor Roll recognition.
  • 2 named NCAA Elite 90 recipient as student-athlete with highest GPA at NCAA Championships – Bennett Anderson (men’s basketball) and Korbe Otis (softball).
  • 3 College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans – Alicia Dudeney (tennis), Josh Liendo (swimming) and Kennedy Martin (volleyball).
  • Amanda O’Leary was Big 12’s pick for lacrosse coach of the year. 30th consecutive season at least one UF coach was recognized as league coach of the year.
