EUGENE, Ore. – Alabama track and field Nigerian star Samuel Ogazi won the 400-meter national title on the third day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The 2024 Paris Olympics finalist was the only runner in the event final to clock a sub-45 time as he finished with a 44.84.

In the Crimson Tide’s lone field event final of the day, the discus trio of Christopher Crawford (59.08m | 193-10), Trevor Gunzell (57.52m | 188-8) and Christopher Young (57.23m | 187-9) all amassed Second Team All-America honors. Crawford would finish just shy of the podium in ninth, while Gunzell and Young finished 14th and 15th, respectively. Ogazi returned to the track as a member for UA’s 4×400-meter relay contingent, along with Donald Chiyangwa, Oussama El Bouchayby and Peter Diebold, as the group clocked a season-best, sixth-place finish of 3:02.17.

Alabama’s Katelyn Adel began her heptathlon journey Friday with a pair of PR-setting performances, first with a 14.12 showing in the 100-meter hurdles, followed by a 24.65 sprint in the 200m. Before the first day was done, Adel captured a sixth-place finish (1.72m | 5-7.75) in the high jump.

Adel will return to the track Saturday for the conclusion of the women’s heptathlon (5:30 p.m. CT), before Crimson Tide teammates Miracle Ailes (women’s high jump, 7:30 p.m.) and reigning national champion Doris Lemngole (women’s steeplechase, 8:24 p.m.) compete in their respective event finals.

The UA men finished the national meet tied for 26th place with 13 points.
