Lemngole Clocks Second-Fastest NCAA Steeplechase Run, Tide Sends Three to National Championships on Final Night of NCAA East First Rounds
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Alabama track and field’s Doris Lemngole took no time at all punching her ticket to Eugene, Ore., for next month’s National Championships (June 11-14), as the sophomore standout’s 9:13.12 broke the Hodges Stadium facility record. Joining Lemngole was Miracle Ailes, who used a season-best performance of 1.82 meters (5-11.50) to advance in the high jump, and Precious Nzeakor, who clocked an advancing, 23.03 time in the 200-meter race.
Lemngole jumped out to an early lead in her 3,000-meter steeplechase heat, establishing a gap after the first two barriers. With her 9:13.12 time, the reigning steeplechase national champion now holds the three-fastest times ever in NCAA history including a 9:10.13 performance earlier this season and a 9:15.24 in 2024 when she won her first-career national title.
Across the four-day NCAA East First Round meet, the Crimson Tide saw a total of 21 student-athletes advance to the National Championships in 14 events. The national meet will take place at Oregon’s Hayward Field and will run from June 11-14.
“Our team showed incredible grit and focus this week – advancing the number of student-athletes we did is a testament to their hard work, and we’re excited to carry this momentum to the National Championships in two weeks. I couldn’t be prouder of how everyone competed throughout this meet – they supported each other, they rose to every challenge and represented the University of Alabama with excellence. This was a total team effort, and they’ve truly earned their shot on the national stage.”
