JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On the second day of the NCAA East First Round meet, the Alabama track and field program saw five student-athletes punch their tickets to Eugene, Ore., for next month’s National Championships, June 11-14.

Christopher Crawford (19.09m | 62-7.75) and Trevor Gunzell (19.23m | 63-1.25) claimed national berths in the shot put, before Mariia Horielova (long jump, 6.43m | 21-1.25) and Megan Albamonti (javelin, 52.94m | 173-8) advanced in their respective events. UA distance runner Brenda Tuwei closed the night with a personal-best, fifth-place finish in her 10,000-meter race (32:48.02).

In the preliminary track events, UA’s Precious Nzeakor posted qualifying finishes (20.70) in both her 100-meter and 200-meter heats.

The second day of events at the NCAA First Round featured a two-hour weather delay that impacted the meet schedule. The women’s competition will resume Friday, with UA trio of Cleo Oye-Agyepong, Treneese Hamilton and Mye’Joi Williams set to compete in shot put at 9 a.m. CT.

Friday will also feature the men’s event finals on the track, as four Crimson Tide runners look to advance to the national meet. Jekovan Rhetta will race in the 100m, Donald Chiyangwa in the 200m, Samuel Ogazi in the 400m and Oussama El Bouchayby in the 800m. Alabama will also see action in two field events – Barry Evans, Christopher Crawford, Trevor Gunzell and Christopher Young in discus and Khristian Watson in high jump.
