Liburd Sets National Record at NCAA East First Round
Liburd crossed the line at 51.43 in the 400-meters, breaking the 18-year-old mark set by Ashley Kelly in 2007 at 51.63.
In addition to Liburd’s success, four Seminoles advanced to the next round which will take place on Saturday.
Liburd advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinal after turning in the fifth-fastest time. In addition to her success, five other Seminoles also moved on from the first round.
The duo of Shenese Walker and Joella Lloyd qualified in the 100, led by Walker who won her heat with the second-fastest time in program history at 11.02. Lloyd moved to fifth in program history with a time of 11.10, posting the seventh-fastest time in the first round
Suus Altorf posted a time of 4:13.25 to secure sixth place in the 1,500.
Tyra Wilson concluded the competition with the fifth-fastest qualifying time in the 400 with a time of 56.32.
Florida State will be represented by Tyson Williams, Andre Korbmacher, Neo Mosebi, Micahi Danzy, Kyvon Tatham and Zach Cloud in the quarterfinals on Friday, looking to join Curtis Williams, who punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships after finishing 10th in the long jump on Wednesday. Competition will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the men’s triple jump.
